What the calculator shows

  • Base (MFN / general) rate from the official USITC Harmonized Tariff Schedule.
  • Legacy Section 301 duties linked to the code (China lists) from Chapter 99 provisions.
  • New Section 301 rate by origin, effective 2026-07-24, including the combined-cap rules for some partners.
  • Estimated duty = goods value × total ad-valorem rate.

Rules that changed in 2026

The 2025 IEEPA (fentanyl and reciprocal) tariffs ended on 2026-02-24 after the Supreme Court ruling of 2026-02-20. The temporary Section 122 10% surcharge expired on 2026-07-24 and was replaced by new Section 301 duties. See our policy updates page for what we track and when it was last reviewed.

What it does not include

Anti-dumping and countervailing duties, Section 232 duties (steel, aluminium, copper, autos and others), per-unit (specific) duties, merchandise processing and harbour fees, and the many exemptions in the new 301 annexes are not calculated. Confirm with your customs broker before shipping.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the duty rate come from?

The base rate and Chapter 99 references come from the official USITC HTS search interface. Policy rates by origin come from our maintained rules table, shown with its as-of date.

Why is the total only an estimate?

AD/CVD, Section 232, specific duties, fees and exemptions are not included, and customs makes the final classification and valuation.

What HTS code length should I enter?

At least 6 digits. With 8–10 digits you get the exact national tariff line; with 6 digits you can pick from the lines under that prefix.
