Why validate postal codes

Wrong or mismatched postcodes cause delivery delays, address-correction fees and returns. A quick lookup catches typos before the label is printed.

Formats to watch

  • US: 5-digit ZIP (optionally ZIP+4). Many ZIPs start with 0 — keep the leading zero.
  • UK: alphanumeric postcodes such as SW1A 1AA, with a space before the last three characters.
  • Canada: A1A 1A1 pattern.
  • Netherlands, Poland, Portugal and others: numeric codes with a fixed length and sometimes a hyphen or letters.

Data sources and limits

Exact lookups come from a public postal-code dataset covering 80+ countries; other countries fall back to OpenStreetMap search. A postal code can cover several places, so treat the result as a sanity check, not an official address validation.

Frequently asked questions

Which countries are supported?

More than 80 countries have exact data; the rest use an OpenStreetMap fallback, which may return less precise results.

Can it validate a full street address?

No. It checks the postal code against the place name and region only.

Is my input stored?

Lookups are sent to the data provider through our proxy to avoid browser restrictions; we do not store the postal codes you enter. See the privacy policy.
